I have to admit that I'm a horrible 2:00a.m. blog-lurker. In fact, I'm fairly sure that I'm nocturnal.
When the alarm clock rings in the morning, I long to reclaim those hours I spent in the magical land of Pinterest and craft blogs. The creative world I find on the internet is like Oz with glitter and hot glue guns (but without the flying monkeys, thank goodness!). It's easy to lose myself in the creative worlds of my favorite designers, artists, and bloggers and forget that I actually have to get up and be able to function in the morning.
When it comes to creative endeavors, it's the process I enjoy. I'm rarely too attached to the final product, which might be why I love creating things to give or sell. Believe it or not, I rarely come across a crafting pattern and think, "I have to make that for MY house." But every once in a while, I fall in love with a project.
I came across this crochet heart garland on one my favorite craft blogs, This Mama Makes Stuff. (If you haven't "met" Carrie yet, you definitely have to visit her "about me" page and watch her little video spot...you're going to love her sense of humor!)
When making my heart garland, I chose a smaller cotton yarn with a beautiful sheen for my hearts, Cascade Yarn's "Ultra Pima," and a relatively small hook (size C, 2.75mm). To create the garland, follow the pattern link on "This Mama Makes Stuff" blog:
After you crochet your desired number of hearts, create the garland string:
- chain 40
- single crochet into the top of one side of the heart
- chain 5-7 stitches and single crochet into the other side of the heart
- chain 20
- add another heart using the single crochet method
- repeat until you attach all of your hearts
- chain 40 and tie off
